From June 2020 to April 2021, I worked as a full-time Intern on the UX design team at GE Appliances. I was responsible for consumer-facing mobile experiences associated with GE Smart home products. Throughout the 11 months, I had the opportunity to work with PMs, UX researchers, program engineers, electrical engineers, and developers closely.
GE BI convection Micromod
I worked on the upcoming built-in convection Micromod and designed the control panel layout, user flows, and also UI design. I was able to closely work with many stakeholders through this project and we had brainstorming sessions to find some edge cases. I contributed to building the prototypes and this allowed us to save time on deciding our directions and better communication.
The Sage project I worked on is an upcoming indoor grower home appliance. I led the mobile design experience and worked on first-time planting flow, plant management process, and also an advanced mode that allows advanced plant growers to control detail settings of their plants(humidity, nutrient, temperature, lighting, etc) manually.
GE SmartHQ 2.0
I redesigned the GE Smart HQ 2.0 home screen layout and navigation system based on feedback from the customers. Team focused on making better use of screen space and making it easier for customers to navigate to the information they need.
It was a time not only did I grow as a designer, but I learned the importance of having confidence in my own judgment and design. At GE Appliances, I learned how to find a way to communicate and collaborate with different stakeholders effectively and the importance of documenting everything. Most importantly, working at a manufacturing company allowed me to understand the product design process of different kinds of interfaces and the importance of balancing between business needs and customer expectations.
The projects are under NDA. Please reach out to me for more details if you are interested in the projects!
